A school counselor is an educator who:
- Advocates for the student at school
- Provides Individual and Small Group Counseling
- Works with teachers and parents to provide helpful suggestions and support for
children’s needs.
- Provides classroom guidance for every class
- Helps in identifying academic and social/emotional needs of children
- Helps children understand themselves and others
- Provides information about community resources that would benefit children
- Makes referrals to outsides agencies
- Provides parents with resources and information
Westbrook Middle School is one of 60 school counseling programs from 14 states to receive the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation in 2008. We are also the only middle school in the State of Maine to have earned this honor as of 2010. The RAMP designation, awarded to schools that align with the criteria set in the ASCA National Model, recognizes schools that are committed to delivering a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and an exemplary educational environment.
